Bat Yam
Bat Yam is a city located on the Mediterranean coast near Tel Aviv and Holon, south of Jaffa.
The name "Bat-Yam" translates as "daughter of the sea", or "mermaid."
The population of the city consists mainly of representatives of eastern communities and returnees from the CIS countries.
The city was founded in 1926 by members of the Bayit Va-Gan organization. In the beginning he was called - "Bayit va-Gan".
In 1929 the inhabitants temporarily left the city because of the Arab riots.
In the 30s, refugees from Nazi Germany arrived in Bat Yam.
In 1936, Bat-Yam received its current name. In the 1950s, repatriates from North Africa and Romania settled in it.
In 1958 Bat-Yam was given the status of a city.
